Congratulations on your new puppy!

The following describes what typically happens on your first few vet visits, which are very important in getting your puppy off to a great start!  This list includes the core vaccines needed.  However, your pet may need additional vaccines depending on its lifestyle, such as Bordetella (Kennel Cough), Influenza, or Borrelia (Lyme Disease).

1st Visit - 6 weeks

  • Physical examination
  • 1st puppy vaccine:  Distempter, Hepatitis, and Parvovirus
  • Deworming

2nd Visit - 9 weeks

  • Physical examination
  • 2nd puppy vaccine:  Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Leptospira
  • Begin monthly heartworm prevention, which also deworms for most intestinal parasites.


3rd Visit - 12 weeks

  • Physical examination
  • 3rd puppy vaccine:  Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Leptospira


4th Visit - 16 weeks

  • Physical examination
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Schedule a spay or neuter!  For most pets, the best time to have this done is between 4 months and 6 months of age.
